1940s Japanese Lusterware Miniature Condiment Set: Moriage Cherry Blossoms, Souvenir So. Fallsburg N.Y.

Beautiful miniature copper lusterware set with hand painted dogwood (or is it cherry blossoms?) flowers finished with the moriage technique. The set consists of a handled tray, salt and pepper shakers, a lidded mustard pot (or tiny sugar bowl?) and toothpick holder (I think!). An added surprise is that this is a souvenir set…carefully hand painted on the sugar bowl is ‘So. Fallsburg, N.Y.’ The tray has more of a purple hue while the pieces have more of a copper hue. The salt and pepper shakers have cork stoppers.

Creamer: approximately 3” tall (with lid) and 3 ⅜” from handle to handle
Toothpick holder: approximately 1.75” tall and 1 ⅝” wide.
Salt/pepper shaker: Approximately 2.25” tall and 1.5” wide
Tray: approximately 5.75” wide
No chips or cracks.
No spoon included.

The backstamp is the elephant mark used by Tashiro Shoten Ltd, a Japanese souvenir dealer from the 1930s. Occupied Japan was used from 1945-1951, so this set is either from the mid-1930s to-1945 or from 1952-54.

Tashiro Shoten Ltd porcelain shops in Yokohama which were active before WWII up until 1954. The use of the word "Shoten" indicates the name for a shop which is selling products from its own kiln.
