1886-88 New England Wild Rose PeachBlow Glossy Curio Vase from the Rindge Collection

Peachblow or Peach Blow? Small but mighty, this stunning little glossy vase with a flared bottom is from the collection of F. and P. Rindge. According to ‘Peachblow Glass’ by Sean and Johanna S. Billings (p. 68), the glossy form is less common. This vase is museum-quality and a true treasure for collectors.

What is Peachblow? It is a heat-sensitive homogenous glass that gets its color change from being reheated in the glory hole, a process called “striking.” The heat causes a chemical reaction which causes a color change in the portions that were heated a second time. New England’s peachblow color gradient shades go from rose pink to white at the bottom.

Most items in my shop are vintage and are not brand new and come from estate sales. The items may show minor age-related wear and/or minor flaws consistent with the date of manufacture (please be sure to check photos carefully as they are part of the description).
