This tall compote is unusual in that it has a scalloped edge (many of the other compotes have a flat edge). What makes it even more unusual is the base. The panels that make up the stem in the pattern are to go straight down. However, on this piece, the panels are twisted at the base (please see pictures) that causes a beautiful swirl. I asked experts about this and was told that perhaps they had issues taking the piece out of the mould (hence the twist) or perhaps wanted to try something different on a particular manufacturing run. Either way, it makes for a beautiful piece that would be great for a collector or conversation piece to add to your home decor.
