Rare German E. Hartmann Munchen Silverplate Ashtray with Match Holder

This is an interesting ashtray made for the Hansa Cafe by the Eduard Hartmann foundry in Germany. Unfortunately, I know nothing about the Hansa Cafe history. It is a unique piece that could be used for change or trinkets or even an unusual bird feeder.

Patina commensurate with age. Much of the silverplate has worn off over the years, exposing the brass underneath.

Approximately 5.5” tall and 5” wide.
Engraved on the back of the match holder: Hansa Cafe E. Hartmann, Munchen, Ges. bezel. Note the unusual shape of the U which is very rare according to https://www.silvercollection.it/ASCASBOHRMANN.html.

Company history: E. Hartmann foundry of silver-plated hollowware and cutlery. It was founded by Eduard Hartmann in Munich at the end of the XIX century and operated until World War II. The items produced by this maker are of excellent design and high quality.

This item came from the estate of a prominent Hollywood photographer.
