Antique Wooden Trencher-style Dough Bowl with Hand Carved Figure

Trencher-style dough bowls have a long history dating back centuries when they were essential tools in the kitchen for kneading and proofing bread. They were often carved from a single piece of wood to avoid seams that could trap dough and bacteria. The presence of a primitive woman with a flower in her hair inside this hand-carved bowl is unusual and suggests it may have a ceremonial or decorative purpose in addition to its practical use.

This is a very old piece of wood (likely from the 1800s to early 1900s) and the wear/tear and cracks are consistent with age and use. The imperfections, along with the variations in the wood colors from a silvery greys to browns, create a beautiful one of a kind piece. My pictures do not do it justice and I know it will grace your home and kitchen whether your style is farmhouse, mission, rustic, western, primitive, minimalist, cottage core, or????.
