1953 Souvenir Menu Chinese Silk Fan with Hand Painted Designs from the HMS Tegelberg | 4 Available

Souvenir menu fans from ocean liners were popular keepsakes for passengers, offering a tangible memento of their journey and onboard dining experience, in addition to providing a way to keep cool during warmer climates or formal dinners. These Chinese silk fans, with their rigid circular design and handles, are also known as a tuan shan or palace fans.Each is unique, featuring different hand painted Asian floral designs on the front and back, and reflect the luxury and sophistication associated with sea travel during the mid-20th century.The menu details provide a snapshot of the culinary offerings of the time and the specific event being celebrated. The Royal Interocean Lines was a Dutch company. The presence of the ship’s name, captain, and chef de cuisine adds historical authenticity and collectible appeal.

Four are available and being sold separately. Each is approximately 11.75” tall and 7.75” wide. On the wooden handle is stamped Royal Interocean Lines. The material has frayed in some places and there is the yellowing that comes with age. Please review pictures carefully.
