A beautiful wood Bulldog pipe with oxidized vulcanite (Hard rubber) stem made in the Comoy tradition (for more information see: https://pipedia.org/wiki/Comoy%27s). Though the line is considered a Second, it is still a beautiful piece. The Briar wood is stunning and once cleaned/polished this pipe will be gorgeous. This is the perfect gift for the pipe smoker or collector.
Approximately 5.25” long
Pipe shape #4, aka Bulldog
There are minor dents/scratches in the wood, but no noted cracks.
Stem has bite marks and scratches.
“Sunrise Tawny Grain” is stamped on one side and “Vintage Briar, 4” on the other. France is stamped near the stem.
The Sunrise brand perfectly illustrates the split pipe production of a same label between Saint Claude (FR) and London (GB) during the period Chapuis Comoy and Comoy closely collaborated (prior to early 1970s).
Likely from the 1950s-60s
