Vintage Mahalakshmi Glass Works Codd-Neck Bottle | Aqua Glass - Black Marble | Darwin in a Heart

These bottles have such an interesting history (see the provenance below for more information). This particular bottle was produced by Mahalakshmi Glass Works in India somewhere between 1947-early 2000s. It is a lovely green glass bottle with a dark gray/black marble in the neck and a thick glass bottom. It also has air bubbles trapped in the glass. It makes a lovely suncatcher in the window or an interesting home decor piece that may just be a conversation starter (Why does that bottle have a mouth-shaped neck with a marble stuck in it and why does it have Darwin in a heart embossed on the front?)

Emhart (1982:33) featured an “M” with curved sides and a smaller “x” between the legs as used by the Mahalakshmi Glass Works Private Ltd., Bombay, India . The logo remained in the 1996 listing (Emhart 1996:21).Because the logo used by the Indian glass house matched the mark on the Codd bottle, and because India is one of the last bastions of Codd bottle use, the most probable maker of the bottle was the Mahalakshmi Glass Works Private Ltd. of Mumbai (Bombay).
