Military payment certificates (MPCs) were used by the US Dept of Defense to prevent inflation and black-market trading in foreign countries. These notes were issued to military personnel for use at military exchanges and commissaries. They were periodically replaced with new series to invalidate old notes held by locals. The 641 series MPC was issued in 5c, 10c, 25c, 50c, $1, $5 and $10 denominations between 31st August 1965 and 21st October 1968. These notes were designed to be easily recognizable and difficult to counterfeit.
