1940s 48-star Silk Presentation U.S. Flag in Gold Wooden Frame | Daughters of Union Veterans

This 48-star silk parade/desk U.S. flag is a unique piece documenting service and women's history, Civil War lineage, and early-to-mid 20th-century nursing history. Dating to somewhere between 1925-1959, it was “Presented to Lorene Agnes Birdy upon completion of her education as a nurse from Tent No. 13, Daughters of Union Veterans.”

Flag is 11.75" x 8" This specific small size is often called a parade, desk, or presentation flag.
Frame is 17 ⅜” x 13.5. There is no glass in the frame.
Written on back: Presented to Lorene Agnes Birdy upon completion of her education as a nurse from Tent No. 13. Daughters of Union Veterans.
Wear/tear commensurate with age: Small dark spots in corners where the flag is attached, bit of white residue at top left flag corner, small rip on mounting board (see pictures).
The local chapters of the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War (DUVCW) are called "Tents". Each Tent was named in honor of a Civil War army nurse or a patriotic woman of that era.
