Victorian 4” Curtain Holdback | 19th-century Gothic Revival Quatrefoil Cast Brass and Enamel Tie Back

$85.00

A beautiful antique Gothic Revival brass curtain tieback post (or curtain holdback). The design on the front features a Gothic Revival layout centered around traditional European heraldic symbolism. Items like this were incredibly popular during the Gothic Revival movements of the late 19th century and the mid-20th century, when homeowners loved adding old-world, castle-like elegance to their window treatments.

Details:
-The Escutcheon (Central Shield): The small enameled shield is divided vertically down the middle (known in heraldry as party per pale). The left side is a vibrant cobalt blue (azure) and the right side is a deep red (gules).
-The Beast Crest: Mounted over the split background is a gold, rearing animal. It depicts a creature rampant—most likely a wolf or a lion—with its forepaws raised in a striking, aggressive posture.
-The Frame & Accents: The central shield sits inside an intricate, textured quatrefoil (four-lobed) brass frame. It is embellished with stamped architectural arches, detailed leaf flourishes, A wolf (or lion) head, The stylized letters A and H and a solitary five-petal rose flower at the very bottom base.

Attachment Mechanism: The integral long, thick screw extending straight out from the center post is designed to thread directly into wood window casing, or into an anchor set into a drywall wall.
